Atlético de Madrid's 2019 year in review

2019's first win arrived on Jan. 13, when we beat Levante 1-0 and Simeone earned his 250th victory as our coach. Godín became the 10th player with the most games in our club's history.
Ahead of the Madrid Derby on Feb. 9, the Wanda Metropolitano held a minute of silence in memory of club legend Isacio Calleja. May all the Atlético supporters who passed away in 2019 rest in peace.
On May 12, the Wanda Metropolitano paid tribute to Diego Godín after his 389 games in Red & White - which make him the non-Spanish player with the most matches in our club's history. The Uruguayan won eight trophies at our club, and the Atleti fans will always remember his goal at the Camp Nou that secured the 2013/14 LaLiga trophy.
Our last official goal of the 2018/19 season was netted by Sergio Camello on his first team debut on May 18. The goal made him the first player born in the 21st Century to score for Atleti.
On May 23 we said goodbye to a legend as Juanfran announced the 2018/19 season would be his last at our club. His 355 matches make him the 16th players with the most appearance in Atleti's history. The Spaniard was paid tribute by the Wanda Metropolitano on Dec. 14 ahead of the game against Osasuna.
Filipe Luis said goodbye to our club as the second non-Spanish player with the most games (333) in Atlético de Madrid's history. The club paid tribute to the Brazilian on July 21.
Our team completed an excellent pre-season, in which we won all our games, including a 7-3 victory over Real Madrid on July 28. Diego Costa (4), João Félix, Correa and Vitolo.
Our legend Diego Forlán was the ambassador in the ‘Atleti Summer Tour’, and he also received a tribute from the Wanda Metropolitano on Sep. 28, after he had announced his retirement. At Atleti, he scored 96 goals and and won one Golden Boot, one Pichichi Trophy, one Europa League (scoring twice in the final) and one UEFA Super Cup.
On Oct. 1, at just 19 years and 325 days of age, João Félix became our youngest ever goalscorer in the Champions League as he netted the opener in our 2-0 away win over Lokomotiv Moscow. Pure talent!
Club legend Jorge Griffa was paid tribute at the Wanda Metropolitano on Oct. 19. The defender played for Atleti between 1959 and 1969, winning one league title, three cups and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
That same day, Koke surpassed Isacio Calleja as the fifth player with the most official matches for our club. The 27-year-old is into his 11th season in our first team, and has so far won two Europa League titles, two UEFA Super Cups, one league, one cup and one Spanish Super Cup. Only Adelardo, Tomás Reñones, Collar and Aguilera remain ahead of our captain.
On Nov. 2, Simeone reached his 300th LaLiga game as our coach, equalling Johan Cruyff as the fourth coach with the most matches at a single club in the Spanish league. The Argentine registered a better win percentage than the legendary Dutchman when arriving at 300 victories (61.6% for Simeone, 59.6% for Cruyff).
After yet another game without conceding any goals, Jan Oblak became the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in LaLiga in Atlético de Madrid's history following the match against Villarreal on Dec. 6. It was his 96th clean sheet in the Spanish league, surpassing Abel Resino's tally of 95.
It was in fact Abel Resino who on Dec. 16 presented the Slovenian with the Zamora Trophy for the 2018/19 season. It was the fourth award for Oblak.
Also on Dec. 16, João Félix received the Golden Boy 2019. The award distinguishes the best Under-21 player in European football.
Our team finished the year with a 2-1 away win over Betis at the Benito Villamarín stadium. Correa and Morata were the goalscorers. It was our third straight win.
