TOTTENHAM AND LIVERPOOL WILL FACE OFF IN THE FINAL

Wanda Metropolitano becomes epicentre of world football as it hosts Champions League final

Tottenham and Liverpool face each other at the Wanda Metropolitano in one of the biggest games in world football. Our stadium will once again host a top-level event, following the matches and concerts that have taken place at our home in the last one and a half years.

The eyes of the football world will once again turn to the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1, when Tottenham and Liverpool face off at 9 pm in the Champions League final. It will be the first time both sides play at our stadium, and the second that two English teams face each other in the competition’s final. Spurs fans will be sat in the north side of the stadium, whereas the Reds will be located in the south end.

It will be the eighth time that Liverpool play the Champions League final – having won the competition five times – and Tottenham’s debut in the biggest game in European football. American rock band Imagine Dragons will be playing on the night, as well as Ukrainian quartet Asturia Girls.

Since the Wanda Metropolitano was inaugurated on Sep. 16, 2017, it has hosted several big sporting and music events.

On March 27, 2018, Spain made its debut at our new stadium, earning a big 6-1 win over Argentina. That wasn’t the last time that the South American side played at the home of all the Atléticos, though, as they faced Venezuela a year later, on March 22, 2019. Argentina were unable to win that match too, losing 3-1 on the day. The first final played at the Wanda Metropolitano took place on April 21, 2018, as Barcelona beat Sevilla 5-0 in the Copa del Rey decider.

As far as concerts go, our stadium hosted two shows in summer 2018. On June 22, Bruno Mars played in front of 55,000 fans, and Iron Maiden did the same on July 14.

This season, the Wanda Metropolitano broke the world attendance record for a women’s club match, as 60,739 fans gathered to watch the game between Atlético de Madrid Femenino and FC Barcelona on March 17.

A 99-year-old record had been broken by the Red & White supporters. Here’s to many more historic moments at the home of all the Atléticos!
