Koke has played 100 games in the Champions League
Our captain reached the magic milestone of 100 matches in the rojiblanca jersey, becoming the first Atlético player to reach this number of appearances in the continent’s highest-level competition.
Jorge Resurrección, Koke, keeps making history for Atlético de Madrid. In addition to being the player with the highest number of appearances wearing the rojiblanca, overtaking the legendary Adelardo Rodríguez, he played his 100th match for Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League, the highest player in this ranking, who is also the leader if we take into account the other european matches, in Europa League and the European Super Cup, meaning his overall total is 131. With this number, he is also the player that has played the most matches wearing the rojiblanca jersey in all european competitions.
Koke is a ‘One Club Man’ for Atlético de Madrid, having joined the youth sector and climbing up the ranks in the Academy, before making his first team debut in 2009 against Barcelona at the Camp Nou. With the first team, he has won 8 trophies, the same number as Diego Pablo Simeone. This is comprised of two league titles, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup, two Europa League’s and two European Super Cup’s.
Another player to also play 100 matches in the Champions League before the game against Sparta Prague, was Antoine Griezmann, however, not all of the games were played wearing the rojiblanca jersey. The French international has played 78 matches for Atlético, as well as eight for Real Sociedad and 14 for Barcelona.
The two players didn’t start against Sparta Prague, but they showed their importance in the second half. The Frenchman, for example, scored the fourth goal of the match against the Czech side.
