MATCH PREVIEW | ELCHE - ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

Towards the Quarter Finals at Martínez Valero

Atlético de Madrid will look to secure a place in the Copa del Rey Quarter Finals at the Martínez Valero, against an in-form Elche side, who currently sit in the promotion spots for LaLiga EA Sports.

This Wednesday, 15 January (21:30 CET), a new chapter of Atlético de Madrid’s Copa del Rey campaign will begin. The match will take place at the Martínez Valero against an Elche side who currently sit second in LaLiga Hypermotion, in the automatic promotion spots, tied on points with Racing de Santander in third.

Eder Sarabia’s side are having a brilliant season both in the League, as they sit in a good position, and the Copa del Rey, after eliminating La Liga side UD Las Palmas in the last 32 (4-0). Prior to this, Elche had eliminated Coria in the first round (0-3), thanks to goals from Mario Gaspar, Mourad and Agustín. After this, they beat Yeclano (0-1), also away from home, thanks to a goal from Óscar Plano. Then, in the latest round, they beat UD Las Palmas on 5 January (4-0) thanks to goals from Rodrigo Mendoza, David Affengruber, José Salinas and Nicolás Fernández. Elche come into this game after beating Real Zaragoza (1-0), with a goal from Rashani in stoppage time.

It’s worth noting that in the Elche Squad, they have a goalkeeper who trained in our Academy and even played with the First Team. Miguel San Román was the starting goalkeeper in the Franjiverde thrashing of Las Palmas.

Atlético will look for another win after beating Osasuna in LaLiga EA Sports (1-0) thanks to a goal from Julián Álvarez and recording a 14th consecutive win in all competitions. This will be the side’s fourth Copa del Rey match this season after wins against Vic (0-2), Cacereño (1-3) and Marbella (0-1), making the Copa del Rey one of the team’s objectives for this season.
