Godín: "At home, we feel incredibly strong"
Diego Godín was asked to appear before the media at the conclusion of Monday's practice at the Sports City. The Uruguayan says that playing at home "it’s an asset because you feel protected by the fans."
Diego Godín pointed out that it "is an important week for the team after the international break. We knew we had three matches at home. We’ve already won an important and difficult match against a tough team like Málaga. We are very well in the League, where we want to be, in positions for the Champions League. And now we play a vital match, a final, to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League and in front of our fans, at our Stadium. That is why it's an important week."
The fact that Olympiacos has gone 17 days without competing in an official match does not worry Godín because, "we are at a very good mental moment for this match. We are competing well and we won a difficult match on Saturday and it was won by playing well, demonstrating that the team is in spectacular form. We don't trust anyone, and much less in the Champions against a team that has shown they can compete very well, like they did on Juve's field. We know it's going to be a tough match and we need to try our hardest to take the three points."
He emphasised the strength of the Calderón in the matches the team plays. Godín said that, "playing at home is an asset, especially when you fell welcomed and protected with the warmth of the people. When you see that people are excited, they follow and and cheer, it’s said that they are another player, and that's the truth. On our field, we feel an amazing strength and confidence because the fans are with us. There is a positive atmosphere and they players feel it and transmit it when it’s time to play and fight for each ball."
To finish, he spoke about Ángel Correa, who trained with the team this Monday, saying, "we are all thrilled and overjoyed because he has been able to overcome all the issues he had. For many months, he has been training on his own and has gone through tough times. You have to congratulate him. We're glad he’s with us and hope that he can join us as soon as possible, to bring what he has and to continue to grow with Atlético de Madrid."
