Axel Witsel: set to grace our colours until 2025
After 94 official matches completed for our team, the Belgian signed a contract extension for another year to continue playing for our team next season.
Axel Witsel and Atlético de Madrid have agreed to renew the player's deal with the club until 30 June 2025. The Belgian star joined our team in summer 2022, and since then, Axel has made 94 official outings in two seasons, making him the second player –just behind Oblak– to have played the most number of minutes during the last campaign.
The Belgian footballer has grown into one of the mainstays of Diego Pablo Simeone's side. His multi-skilled nature and expertise have been key in providing support in both defence and midfield, roles in which he has performed to the Argentinean coach's demands.
The 'rojiblanco' player, following the sealing of his contract extension, stated his delight at the prospect of staying at our club for one more year: "I'm so happy to stay one more year at this great club. Atléticos, see you soon".
