CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | SECOND LEG OF THE QUARTER-FINALS

Aiming for a spot in the Champions League semi-finals

The Riyadh Air Metropolitano will be lit up for the occasion as we host FC Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. We will kick off with an advantage on the scoreboard after winning 2-0 at the Camp Nou thanks to goals from Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth.

Atlético are preparing for one of those nights that will forever be etched into Rojiblanco memory. This Tuesday 14 April at 21:00 CEST, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano will be dressed up gala-style to host an authentic European blockbuster, a highly demanding fixture that will see our fans become that twelfth player.

Atlético come into the clash with an advantage gained in the first leg (2-0), thanks to goals from Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth. Previous encounters between both sides in the European competition reflect very equal and intense duels, with every single match decided by a narrow margin.

Our first fixture against Barcelona in Europe was during the 2013/14 season. The team managed by Diego Pablo Simeone drew 1-1 in Barcelona, securing their tickets to the semi-finals with a goal from Koke in Madrid. During the 2015/16 season, both teams faced off against each other in the quarter-finals. Again, Atlético advanced to the semi-finals after losing 2-1 in the first leg in Barcelona and mounting a comeback during the second leg with a brace from Antoine Griezmann.

This season, both teams have already crossed paths in LaLiga and in the Copa del Rey, resulting in thrilling match-ups. Hansi Flick's side come into the game after winning the Catalan derby 4-1, whilst Atlético suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Sánchez-Pizjuán against Sevilla FC.

We are one step away from once again establishing ourselves among the top four teams in Europe. Ninety minutes separate us from a European semi-final, a prospect that thrills the entire Rojiblanco family. With a full stadium and a devoted fanbase, everything is in place for a great night of football. The Riyadh Air Metropolitano will deliver its verdict in an unparalleled setting.
