Atleti to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League Round of 16
The draw, which took place today in Nyon (Switzerland), assigned us the London team as our opponents in a play-off which will begin at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Atlético de Madrid will face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. The showdown against the team managed by Igor Tudor was determined by a draw held today in Nyon. The first leg will take place on either 10 or 11 March at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and the second leg will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 17 or 18 March.
Tottenham Hotspur are the reigning champions of the UEFA Europa League. Currently, they sit in 16th in the Premier League with 29 points. In the League Phase of the Champions League, they finished in fourth.
They lost only one game during the competition's initial phase. Their only defeat was to Paris Saint Germain (5-3) at the Parc des Princes. Historically, we have only ever played against the London team once - in the final of the 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup where we lost 5-1.
This play-off against Tottenham will feature one of our former players, Conor Gallagher, who joined the English side from Atlético de Madrid during the most recent winter transfer window.
