Villa: "Lifting a title in August is very important"
The Asturian striker spoke to the media prior to the match against Barcelona, reflecting on the chances the team have of winning a title.
David Villa is one of the most lethal strikers in world football. He spoke about the how they need to approach the game: "You never know if it's better or worse playing two legged games. We can not make mistakes. We have to be good defensively, taking away the ball that is how we’ll shut them down," said Villa. Motivation is high and more so with the importance of a title at the start of the season, "We want to have a good two-legged final and win it. Lifting a title in August is very important for any team. We have to think first about the first leg at the Calderon and take an advantage there."
Despite playing against former teammates and friends, the striker is focused on its main task, scoring goals and playing the most to help his team: "It's not the first time that I face former teammates and friends, it will be the same as always. I have very good friends there but when you start the game for them and for us it will be the same as always," said the Spaniard. Above all, David Villa is excited about playing in front of our fans: "I have really wanted to play at the Calderon, more so as my debut is against Barcelona.”
He also talked about his position on the field. Everyone knows that Villa is a very versatile attacker, able to drive the defence crazy and score plenty of goals from anywhere: "During my career I played a lot up front and it is where I can best develop but I can also play on the wings. In the last World Cup I played out there and my performance was very good. I like to be mobile but with several options to play is easier for everyone, for me and for the coach."
Finally he talked about how he felt on his debut against Seville and looked forward to the World Cup in Brazil: "On a personal level I am very happy to have played and won the first game. I feel good every day and collectively perfect. We have a tough schedule and starting with a win against a direct rival at their place is a great start. If I keep playing well and scoring goals, I will have no problem going to Brazil" he concluded.
