Tiago signs for two seasons
The Portuguese will stay in our team for the next two seasons after the agreement reached with the Club. "I look forward to helping the team in everything I can", the player said after signing the contract.
Tiago Cardoso Mendes will face his sixth season with Atlético de Madrid after reaching an agreement with the Club and signing for two seasons. After signing his name on the contract, the midfielder will immediately join the team concentration in Los Ángeles de San Rafael, in Segovia.
The Portuguese came to Atlético Madrid loaned by Juventus Turin in the middle of the 2009-2010 season. The Portuguese got a foothole in the team and played the League and King’s Cup, reaching the final. He could not play in the Europa League, which was finally won by Atlético de Madrid against Fulham since he’d already played that competition with the Turin team.
He was loaned again by Juventus for the next season, but arrived shortly before Atlético won the European Super Cup final against Inter Milan and couldn’t play that game. At the end of the 2010-2011 season, his commitment with the Italian team ended and he signed for two seasons with Atlético de Madrid. In the 2011-2012 season, he was a key player in the Atlético de Madrid that was champion of the Europa League against Athletic in Bucharest. And also in the second European Super Cup against Chelsea. In the 2012-2013 season, he was key in the return of the team to the Champions League, finishing third in the League and champion of the King’s Cup against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
And, in the past season, Tiago was a cornerstone of the team that was League champion and runner-up in the Champions League.

The Portuguese explained after signing the contract for another couple of seasons, that at the end of the last one, "The Club offered me the possibility of a renewal. I felt proud because we’d had an incredible season, but I thought it was time to close a cycle. I had the opportunity to play in various international leagues and I took some time to assess the various options during the summer, but at the time of taking the final decision, it was clear to me that Atleti was the only right choice. During these weeks many false things have been said about me, but that doesn’t change anything. Since the season ended, I had not completely forgotten Atleti nor had the Club completely forgotten about me. The Cholo always left the door open for me and now I'm very happy because I know that I’ve made the right choice. I want to thank the Club very much for waiting for me and for offering me the opportunity to stay here. I look forward to helping the team in everything I can", he concluded.
