The Kings Don Felipe and Don Juan Carlos presided over the presentation of the COTEC Report in the Calderón
Enrique Cerezo, our chairman, hosted along with Cristina Garmendia, chairwoman of the COTEC Foundation. His Majesty Felipe VI emphasized the innovative character that the Calderón had in its inauguration and the one that the Wanda Metropolitano will have in its debut.
The Kings Don Felipe and Don Juan Carlos presided over the presentation of the COTEC Report at the Vicente Calderón. This event also served as the closing ceremony to the Imperdible_02 event that took place at the Vicente Calderón on January 10th and 11th, where football and innovation went hand in hand thanks to COTEC.
Our chairman, Enrique Cerezo, and COTEC’s chairwoman, Cristina Garmendia, were the hosts along with Their Majesties Don Felipe and Don Juan Carlos at our stadium. Don Felipe VI remembered during his speech the first time that he visited the Vicente Calderón: "A stadium that brings such good memories to all. I first came to the Calderón in January, 1976, accompanied by my parents in the first sports event that they attended as Kings. And I have returned here so many times to live unforgettable moments of a sport, football, which helps so much to create feelings, empathy, competition between people and project our international image. Today, as the majority, I do it for the last time, but to speak about the future, a future that is and must be innovative.”
The King Don Felipe emphasized that the innovative character of the Vicente Calderón in its inauguration and the one that the Wanda Metropolitano will have by having a cutting-edge technology: "At a time in which the Vicente Calderón, which was an innovative field in its day, and even pioneering in Europe, by offering to seat all of its spectators, will pass the torch to a new Atlético stadium that will be again at the forefront of technological progress in the sector. I do not want to leave without wishing Atlético de Madrid in this new phase, and as one of the reference teams in Spanish football, to continue to keep alive the sportsmanship that has always symbolized this Vicente Calderón stadium that will always remain in our memories and in our hearts."
After the speeches, Their Majesties shared a few moments together with Enrique Cerezo and Cristina Garmendia next to a miniature of the Wanda Metropolitano. There, they exchanged views on what will be the new house of all the Atléticos."
