Minute of silence and black armbands to honor Koke’s mother
UEFA has authorised these tributes in memory of the mother of our captain and Borja Resurrección, assistant coach of our U19 side.
Ahead of tonight’s Champions League match against Manchester United, a minute’s silence will be observed in memory of Ana Merodio Borja, the mother of our captain, Koke, who passed away this morning in Madrid. Our club requested permission from UEFA to hold a minute’s silence ahead of our Champions League and Youth League matches, and to allow players to wear black armbands. European football’s governing body has approved both tributes in memory of our captain’s mother. As a mark of respect, the Red & White flag at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is flying at half-staff.
Atlético de Madrid would like to express our deepest condolences to all her family and friends, especially Koke, captain of our first team, and Borja Resurrección, assistant coach of our U19 side. May she rest in peace.
