St James’ Park, the next stop on Atleti’s pre-season tour
Our team continues its pre-season preparations this Saturday, 9 August, with a 17:00 CEST kick-off at St James’ Park.
Atlético de Madrid will take on Newcastle United as part of the second away game this pre-season in the 2025 Sela Cup. The match kicks off at 17:00 CEST and will serve as another important test ahead of the team’s LaLiga debut the following weekend.
Diego Simeone’s side will face a tough opponent in Newcastle United, who are preparing for a Champions League campaign this season. The match also marks a reunion with former Atleti full-back Kieran Trippier, a key figure in our 2020/21 LaLiga-winning side.
If after 90 minutes the game ends in a draw, there will be a decisive penalty shootout. For Newcastle side, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season, this will be their sixth and final friendly of the summer, following fixtures against Celtic, Arsenal, Team K-League, Tottenham and Espanyol.
