Simeone overtook Luis Aragones as the most-capped coach in our history
Both are, with eight and six titles respectively, the most successful Red & White coaches.
Diego Pablo Simeone became this Saturday the coach who will have coached the most official matches in our history (613), thus surpassing the number of matches in which Luis Aragones sat on our bench (612).
A new milestone in the professional career of the Argentinian coach, who in March 2021 already surpassed Luis Aragones himself in the number of victories as a Red & White coach. Not in vain, Simeone has won 59% of his matches at the helm of our club, where he has only conceded 18% of defeats, compared to the 50 and 28% respectively that Luis Aragones accumulated in each of those sections.
Both legends of our bench, they are also the most successful Atleti coaches, with the Argentinian having won eight trophies and Luis Aragones, six. The latter won one Intercontinental Cup, three Cups (1976, 1985, 1992), one League (1977) and one Spanish Super Cup (1985), while Simeone has so far won two Leagues (2014, 2021), one Cup (2013), two Europa Leagues (2012, 2018), two European Super Cups (2012, 2018) and one Spanish Super Cup (2014).
On the other hand, Luis Aragonés beats Simeone in the number of seasons as coach of the Red & White team: 15 to 12, although the Argentinian has won all of them consecutively and the Madrid-born coach has done so in four different periods.
