Simeone spoke following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club.
“It was a tough week, because we played three difficult matches. In three days’ time we have another match. We have to keep working. Tonight we suffered a bit from set pieces, and in the second half we were strong on the break and on possession. The fans were extraordinary, I hope they went back home happy,” our coach said.
Saúl, who scored the opener, claimed to be happy with the performance.
“I’m very happy about how the game went. We started well, doing what needed to be done to hurt Athletic Club. The fans helped us from the beginning. I’m happy to have scored and helped the team,” the Spaniard said.
Herrera dedicated the win to the Atleti supporters.
“We knew it would be a very complicated match. They’re a tough team, so we’re happy to have won and kept a clean sheet. I try to do the best I can when I play. The fans are always with us and this victory is for them,” the Mexican said.
Morata, who also scored tonight, praised our performance.
“We were very solid in defence and had good chances to score. We netted twice and we’re very happy,” the Spaniard said.
Correa also spoke after the clash.
“We knew it would be tough. The goals arrived just when we needed them. They’re strong at set pieces and we communicated constantly in order to control the game,” the Argentine said.
