AHEAD OF THE MADRID DERBY

Simeone: “Against Chivas there was commitment and responsibility when things got tough”

Our coach and Saúl spoke ahead of the upcoming game against Real Madrid.

Simeone analysed our team’s current situation on Thursday ahead of the friendly game against Real Madrid.

“I think we’re generating a good atmosphere following the exit of important players. Against Chivas we saw commitment and responsibility when things got tough. That will allow us to grow day by day. The new players will settle in and we will be able to continue in the same way as the previous years,” the Argentine said.

Our coach also spoke about Héctor Herrera.

“Herrera is very experienced and is strong on both sides of the pitch. He’s very excited and has settled in very well,” Simeone said.

Saúl said derby games were always special.

“Even though it’s a friendly match, it’s a derby. It’s always special, and we’re very excited because tomorrow’s derby will be the first to be played outside Europe. The most important thing is to prepare well for the first official match, but tomorrow we will play as if it were an official game, as if it were a final, because every time you put the Atlético de Madrid shirt on, you have to give it your all,” the Spaniard said.

The midfielder also spoke about the new signings.

“It’s true that some very experienced players have left, players who have been here for many years. But I think that the new signings have come in with great excitement. They want to learn, they’re very ambitious and committed to the team. That’s the most important thing,” Saúl said.
