ACCEPTED BY HIS FAMILY

Radomir Antic posthumously awarded club Silver Badge

We paid tribute to the legendary coach that led us to a league and cup Double in the 1995/96 season.

Our legend Radomir Antic was posthumously awarded the club's Silver Badge, which was presented to his family on Thursday at a ceremony held at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Serbian coach, who passed away on April 6, 2020 at the age of 71, oversaw 189 Atleti matches, winning the league and the Copa del Rey – the famous Double – in the 1995/96 season.

We also paid tribute to the 1,036 club members registered between July 1, 1995 and June 30, 1996, who this week are also being awarded with the Silver Badge in recognition of their 25 years of uninterrupted loyalty.

After a long playing career spanning 17 seasons, Antic began his coaching career at Partizan Belgrade in 1985. A decade later, on Sep. 3, 1995, he made his official debut as Atleti coach with a big 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad. It was the first game of the 95/96 LaLiga championship, which we ended up winning in the final match day against Albacete at the Vicente Calderón (2-0).

The Atleti side led by Antic was famous for its fast, counter-attacking style. His usual starting XI was: Molina; Geli, Solozábal, Santi, Toni; Vizcaíno, Pantic, Simeone and Caminero; Kiko and Penev. The team was famous for its set pieces, which were taken by With Milinko Pantic, and went unbeaten for 12 games.

Our team also won the Copa del Rey title that season, beating FC Barcelona 1-0 in the final thanks to a Pantic goal.

Radomir Antic will forever be in our hearts thanks for his successes at our club, but above all, his human qualities.
