“Kun is a player amongst the chosen few”
Quique Sánchez Flores lamented the fact that his team was unable to avoid the Europa League play-in match despite beating Mallorca, assured that “we were close to reaching our goal. Every team finishes in the place it deserves. We won in a tough stadium against an opponent that was playing for its life.”
Regarding the performance of Kun Agüero, who scored three goals against Mallorca. Quique explained that “he’s a player who is amongst the chosen few. It would be a pity for Kun to leave, but this is football. He’s been obsessed with scoring three goals since the season started, and he finally did it.”
“The manager looked back and evaluated his time at Atlético. “We were very happy winning the Europa League and next year the team will play in that competition. We value what we’ve achieved. We were six or eight points out of Europa League a lot during this season. We were able to qualify for that competition and you have to value that,” he highlighted.
“We’re leaving two titles behind. We made progress. This is a team that’s been strengthened and has a great future because of the lads from the reserves. I hope that Atlético continues to hedge its bets on the Academy,” Quique Sánchez Flores concluded.
