Points shared in San Sebastian
Our team gets a point in their visit to the Reale Arena after a good game that ended in a draw.
The game kicked off in San Sebastian with both teams showing their intentions. In the first few minutes, we had a corner kick in our favour, Carrasco took it very close, so much so that the ball hit the post, Morata collected the rebound and sent the ball into the back of the net to make it 0-1 in the 5th minute. Atleti reacted, and after a long pass to Marcos Llorente, he crossed the ball to João Félix. His shot was saved by Remiro and the rebound fell to Morata, who would end up scoring. However, the VAR ruled that the Portuguese had used his arm to control Llorente's cross, so the goal was disallowed on the half-hour mark. One of the best chances of the game came when Giménez's long-range effort from Giménez hit the crossbar with the help of a great save from Remiro.
In the first minutes of the second half, the game was less intense than in the first period. The first dangerous chance after the restart was a cross to the far post from Cho that Sadiq headed in. Oblak could do little and the Nigerian equalised in the 55th minute. From that moment on, a much more attacking Real Sociedad could be seen. After 75 minutes Sadiq received a great ball from Kubo and scored what seemed to be the 2-1, but he was offside and the shot was disallowed. A little later, in the 80th minute, João Félix filtered a great ball and connected with Correa, who finished but Alex Remiro blocked the play. In the last minute Atleti had a double chance, the first by João Félix, who shot from the edge of the area but again Remiro came up with a great save, the rebound fell to Koke who couldn't find the net.
Atleti earned a point at the home of a great rival and now prepares to receive Porto next Wednesday, at 9pm at the Cívitas Metropolitano for the game corresponding to the first matchday of the group stage of the Champions League.
