Miguel Ángel Gil, chosen best CEO of European Football
Gil Marín received the award to the best manager of European football in a gala celebrated in London’s Emirates Stadium which was attended by more than 500 representatives of the world of football and British and global finance.
Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has been chosen the Best European Football CEO in the Football Business Awards 2016 gala celebrated in London’s Emirates Stadium which has been attended by more than 500 people representing British and European football and numerous British and international companies. The jury of different personalities of British football among whom was the Chairman of the Scottish Association and several CEOs and chairmen of Premier League and First Division clubs, as well as mass media representatives such as the BBC, have valued the management of our CEO in a year in which we have played another Champions League final and competed for LaLiga's title until the very last moment, standing up to the biggest European clubs.
Our CEO attended the gala accompanied by Clemente Villaverde, Board Member, and, after receiving the award, wanted to thank everyone who has made it possible: "It is an honour and a privilege to receive this award in the name of all the components of the great family of Atlético de Madrid. It is a public recognition that belongs to many people: employees; players and coaching staff with Diego Pablo Simeone at their lead; the Board of Directors with Enrique Cerezo at the head; the mass media, which helps us to grow; sponsors; and the most important, the biggest asset of the club, our fans; in the name of all of them, thank you for this award."
Michael Ángel Gil Marín continued commenting that, "This award recognizes a management that is based on efficiency. It’s been many years that Atlético is 15th in the Deloitte Football Money League revenue ranking. On the other hand, we have been anchored in the 5th position of UEFA’s ranking, which qualifies sports performance, and at present we are 4th. To be 4th best in Europe when you are 15th in revenue is synonymous with efficiency and is the main reason for this award."
Our CEO assured that, "The only way in which those who work in Atlético de Madrid understand how to maintain year after year this level of efficiency and effectiveness is by doing it from our values: humility, solidarity and enjoying the effort and passion for the work."
Gil Marín wanted to note that, "My success consists exclusively in having put professionals who have known how to represent these values at the head of each of the areas of the club."
Looking at the future, he said, "Now we have before us an exciting challenge: the inauguration of the new stadium, of the new Academy headquarters and consolidating the globalization of our brand."
He finished his intervention assuring he feels "The pride of having had the opportunity to lead the management in this period of the club’s history, respecting the values of sports and those of our fans."
