Mario Suárez: 'We have to minimize our mistakes and finish in attack”

“We’re going to give 110% to earn the win”

Mario Suárez has been facing Real Madrid since he was little. He’s experienced this maximum rivalry since his arrival at the ‘rojiblanco’ academy as an Álevín’. He’s therefore aware what these types of match-ups mean to the supporters. Beating our eternal rival is always special. It’s going to be my first derby at the Vicente Calderón and I’m really looking forward to playing it. We really want to have a good game and earn the win,” he stated.

The central midfielder doesn’t think that Real Madrid might be affected by tiredness after having played in Champions League on Wednesday against Lyon. “They’ve been used to playing two matches per week for years. It’s not going to affect them. They have a lot on the line in La Liga. We’re also playing for a lot, as we want to make it to European play. We’re going to play our game in front of our fans in order to keep the three points at home. We don’t have any advantage for not having played mid-week. What happens on the other side doesn’t concern us,” he reflected.

With regard to the key to defeating Real Madrid, Mario assured that “we have to play our game. We have to play well, minimize our mistakes and finish in attack. We can’t waste the chances that we get. We’re playing at home in front of our people. The fans have to be our player number 12. They’re surely going to put lots of pressure on Madrid. We’re going to have lots of chances. They’ll have to play well to take something positive away from the Calderón.

“We’re coming in with a good dynamic. We haven’t lost in five matches and are confident. We really want to play a good match,
give 110% and play a very complete game to beat them,” he said.

Atlético de Madrid hasn’t defeated Real Madrid in a long time. Now the time has come to break the poor run and take down the ‘blancos’. Mario believes that it’s time for us to beat them, because it’s a pity that there are so many youngsters who support Atlético who don’t know how it feels to beat Madrid. We want to win for the fans and for the team.”

The ‘rojiblanco’ midfielder is only thinking about his team, and he doesn’t care that Real Madrid could drop off the pace of league leaders Barcelona if they don’t win on Saturday. I want to win to be in European competition. I don’t care what happens to Real Madrid. It’s not like they’re going to lose the league if they fall at the Vicente Calderón”, Mario concluded.
