Madrid City Council pays tribute to our club in the place of its foundation
In an emotional act Madrid City Council discovered a plaque placed in Calle Cruz 21, the place where our club was founded on 26 April 1903, more than 115 years ago.
Today, 14 December 2018, in an emotional act in Calle Cruz 21, Madrid City Council paid tribute to our club. Atlético de Madrid was founded in this central Madrid Street and for this reason Madrid City Council has placed a commemorative plaque that was discovered in an act attended by our president Enrique Cerezo, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, Atlético CEO, and Adelardo Rodriguez, Atletico de Madrid Foundation president and player who has dressed the red-and-white shirt most times, while representing Madrid City Council was Jorge Garcia Castaño, councilman of the central district and delegate of Economy and Finance. In addition, they did not want to miss this appointment members of the association Leyendas Atlético de Madrid. Therefore, some of pur historical players were in this act: Jorge Mendonça, Iselín Santos Ovejero, Manolo Sánchez Delgado and Marcelino Pérez.
Calle Cruz 21 has a special place in our history. It was there where a group of Basque students, settled in Madrid, decided to give life to the Athletic Club of Madrid on 26 April 1903, in what were the first steps of our Atleti. Enrique Cerezo wanted to thank the City Council for this beautiful gesture in recognition of our history.
Ten Leagues, ten Copas del Rey, three UEFA Europa League, three European Super Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, one Cup Winner's Cup, two Spanish Super Cups is the record that our club has achieved since our club was born in Calle Cruz 21.
