Lola Romero: “If the competition cannot go on due to reasons unrelated to sports, a void season is the fairest decision”
The highest football authority in Spain concludes the season and validates the current league positions.
The Board of Directors of the Spanish Football Federation ratified on Friday, May 8 the end of the Primera Iberdrola, Reto Iberdrola and Primera Nacional. In the case of the Primera Iberdrola, it has been decided that the matchday 22 standings will be the definitive ones. However, there will be no promotions or relegations, but there will be a league champion and teams that qualified for next year’s UWCL.
Atlético de Madrid Femenino Director Lola Romero disagrees with the RFEF’s decision, since “the standings, titles, promotions and relegations should be achieved on the pitch. If the competition cannot go on due to reasons unrelated to sports, a void season would be the fairest decision. It’s strange to announce a winner without announcing promotions and relegations. Some things are confirmed while others aren’t. I don’t agree with the decision, a void season would have been a better choice”.
As for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, our club was present at a meeting held by the ECA along with the other seven teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals. Different scenarios were discussed in order to continue the European competition ahead of UEFA’s meeting on May 14. Our club qualified for the UWCL quarterfinals for the first time and is to face FC Barcelona.
