Introducing Atleti Strips, a comic series by Chulengol
With intentionally messy lines and deliberately misspelled texts, Chulengol has gained recognition on social media, where his work resonates with people from different countries and cultures.
The Creators Club project, designed to give a voice to unique creative talents, presents Atleti Strips, a series of comic strips featuring funny and surprising stories starring football players. This initiative marks a new way to engage with fans by blending art and humour within the world of sports.
The first installment of Atleti Strips has been created by Chulengol, an Argentine illustrator and cartoonist known for his distinctive style. His unpolished drawings and deliberatley misspelled text have gained him notoriety online, where his work connects with a diverse, global audience.
"I started posting my poorly drawn art online just for laughs, but it took off unexpectedly. Now, more than 10 years later, it’s common to find people using one of my characters as their profile picture, and many don’t even know who I am (luckily, so there’s no one to complain to!). My greatest achievement as an artist is seeing a meme or drawing of mine go viral beyond my reach—that’s when the work stops being mine and becomes part of the internet’s collective heritage," says Chulengol.
He emphasises how football serves as a universal language, breaking down linguistic barriers. "I found a universal language in football, driven by the public's desire to have fun on social media. In my comics, there are no language barriers, allowing fans to laugh at something that happened to their team," he explains.
With Atleti Strips, Creators Club reaffirms its commitment to fostering creativity and talent, providing a platform for artists like Chulengol to share their unique vision with the world. Art, humour, and football come together to create something extraordinary!
