PREVIEW | GALATASARAY VS. ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

We return to Champions League action in Istanbul

This Wednesday, at 18:45 CET, we will face Galatasary at RAMS Park on matchday seven in the League Phase of the Champions League.

We return to the Champions League this Wednesday with a visit to RAMS Park, where we will face Galatasaray at 18:45 CET, on matchday seven of the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League.

We have met the Turkish side on six occasions and have never been beaten by them.

The first two meetings came in the 1973/74 season, in the Round of 16 in the European Cup, a tie that went in our favour in the second-leg, thanks to a goal from Salcedo (0-1).

The most recent meeting came in the 2015/16 season, ten seasons ago. On that occasion, we beat the Turkish team 2-0 at the Vicente Calderón, thanks to a brace from Antoine Griezmann.

Galatasaray are currently top of the Süper Lig, with 43 points. In the Champions League, with two games remaining in the League Phase, they currently sit in 18th place and still have a mathematical chance of finishing in the top-eight. Okan Buruk’s side host us following their 1-0 loss away to AS Monaco on the previous European matchday.

We come into the game following a 2-3 win in Eindhoven, away to PSV, with the goals coming from Julián Alvarez, Hancko and Alexander Sørloth. We are currently eighth in the table and it is down to ourselves to reach the Round of 16.

After the game in Istanbul, our final match in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League sees us face the Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt on 28 January at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
