Domínguez: 'One of my goals this season is to win in the Bernabéu'
The centre-half is optimistic about the match against Real Madrid
Álvaro Domínguez has forgotten about the injury that kept him off the pitch for three weeks. He made his reappearance against Almería, but couldn’t keep the team from earning just one point. “We always want to win and when we don’t do that it means that there are things to correct. Now we have an important match and we want to win it after having started off poorly in the Europa League. I felt good against Almería after three weeks out; I only trained three times and I tried to help the team, although we only earned one point,” said the player.
The defender had been following his teammates from the stands and watched the play shown by the squad. Regarding his teammate in the centre of the defence, Perea, he stated that “he’s been having a really good season. He’s getting rid of his ghosts from the past. I think that his absence will be considerably noted at the Bernabéu.”
Atlético de Madrid has been suffering from many injuries since the start of the season. Domínguez believes that “we’ve been missing important guys in every match and that's been noticeable. Although we have the medical staff and Club physiotherapists to take care of that, and they’re doing a great job. The injured players will surely get better as soon as possible, as we need everyone at 100%.”
Before taking on Real Madrid next Sunday, the ‘rojiblanco’ side will face Rosenborg in a Europa League fixture on Thursday. “We need the three points after a poor start in that competition. A victory would boost our morale in view of the following Europa League matches, and it’s a competition that we really like,” he asserted.
Concerning next Sunday’s derby against Real Madrid, Domínguez assured that “they’re in good form. They haven’t conceded many goals and have scored a lot. We’re all aware of their potential, but we’ve shown many times that we can beat anybody. The team has a good attitude. The schedule at the beginning has been really tough and we’re still near the top in the table. Ronaldo is a very complete player, but the problem isn’t stopping one player, but all eleven that play. They’ll come out hard, but I also have ten teammates who will be helping me stop Ronaldo.”
The centre back continued to speak about the high-rivalry fixture against Real Madrid and explained that “we always want to win and we’re not going to change that idea at the Bernabéu. As a player and fan, one of my biggest goals this season is to beat Real Madrid after a poor streak against them. I’ll be happy if we achieve that.”
“The League is very long and we’ll see if it’s just between Real Madrid and Barcelona; this has just gotten underway. We have a very tough schedule, as we’ve faced all of the top teams in the first matchdays, and we’ll see what happens,” Domínguez finished up.
