Champions League to be decided following ‘final eight’ format
Following our last 16 win against Liverpool, we’ll face our quarter-final opponents over one leg on Aug. 12, 13, 14 or 15 in Lisbon. The UEFA Women's Champions League is also to be completed in August in the Spanish cities of Bilbao and San Sebastián.
The 2019/20 Champions League is to be completed in August following a ‘final eight’ format in Lisbon, it was announced after UEFA’s Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday. All quarter-final, semi-final and final ties will be single-leg fixtures.
All games are to be played at Benfica's Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting CP's Estádio José Alvalade. Following our last 16 win against Liverpool, which was the last match before the COVID-19 health crisis, Atleti are to play the quarter-final fixture on Aug. 12, 13, 14 or 15. This will take place just over three weeks after the conclusion of LaLiga.
The winners of the remaining last 16 fixtures will join our team, PSG, Atalanta and Leipzig in the quarter-final draw. The semi-finals are to be played on Aug. 18 and 19, whereas the final is to take place on Aug. 23.
As for the UEFA Women's Champions League, the competition is also to be completed in August in the Spanish cities of Bilbao and San Sebastián. Atleti Femenino are amongst the final eight, having knocked out Manchester City in the last 16.
The remaining ties will also be single-leg fixtures that are to be played between Aug. 21 and Aug. 30. Our women’s team are to face FC Barcelona in the quarterfinals. The other last eight fixtures are: Olympique Lyonnais - Bayern Munich, Glasgow City - Wolfsburgo and Arsenal - PSG.
