Atleti earned an incredible last minute home win against Athletic Club on Saturday, thanks to a last minute goal by our captain Diego Godín.
The match was played under the November rain, and our team was on the ball from the off, controlling the game and putting pressure on the Basque defence. But our team was unable to find the goal, and 35 minutes in Iñaki Williams put Athletic Club in the lead.
The game went into half time with Atleti 1-0 down, but our team still had 45 minutes to turn the score around. At the beginning of the second half, Vitolo came in for Costa. A few minutes later, Simeone decided to go all out in search of the goal, when Gelson substituted Montero.
The substitutions proved to be effective, since shortly thereafter Thomas Partey scored a fantastic goal from outside the box. The joy didn't last long, however, as Wiliiams once again put the Basque team in the lead a couple of minutes later.
However, our team never gave up and continued attacking. Athletic Club were well organised defensively, but Rodrigo equalised with ten minutes to. The Wanda Metropolitano had never stopped believing and after the goal it went completely crazy. Atleti didn't have much time to score the third, but had the energy from our stadium pushing them. You could feel the goal coming... And it came in the last minute when our captain Diego Godín scored in the last minute to light up the stadium. The comeback was completed and the three points were Atleti's.
