A blockbuster Champions League fixture in London
Atlético will take on Arsenal on Tuesday October 21 at 21:00 CEST, in a game corresponding to Matchday 3 of the league phase of the Champions League.
The Champions League returns to the spotlight this Tuesday with a spectacular clash at the Emirates Stadium, where Atlético de Madrid face Arsenal at 21:00 CEST, on Matchday 3 of the league phase.
Both teams come into the match separated by three points in the qualifying table. The Londoners sit in fifth following a 2-0 win over Athletic Club and another 2-0 victory against Olympiacos in their first two games. Atlético de Madrid bounced back from a narrow defeat at Anfield (3-2) by thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in their most recent fixture.
Interestingly, despite the historic nature of the two clubs and their regular participation in European competitions, they have only faced each other twice before in official competition. That was the semi-finals of the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League, which Atlético would end up winning. The knockout round kicked off in London, where Griezmann's goal earned a 1-1 draw, and concluded at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano with a 1-0 Atlético victory thanks to a goal from Diego Costa.
The game will be refereed by Italian official Davide Massa, under whom Atlético have never lost. In his two previous matches involving the team, they drew with Club Brugge (0-0) in the 2018/19 season and produced a thrilling comeback against Bayer Leverkusen (2-1) last season.
