Antonio López: 'I’m convinced that we’re going to play well against Osasuna”

“We have to go out with the same intensity as they do”

Antonio López knows perfectly well the atmosphere that they’re going to go up against at the Reyno de Navarra. His two years at Osasuna provide him with the experience of how intense the pressure is put on by the supporters there. He thus stated that “we’re going to go for the three points against Osasuna because we know that we can’t slip up any more. It’s a very tough pitch, and all teams suffer there, but we’re ready. Even though we’re not playing poorly, the important thing is the points. We have to come out with at least the same intensity level as they do. With our quality, we know that we’re going to have scoring chances. We have to show our commitment at Reyno de Navarra”.

The left back has full confidence in the squad and knows that their poor form in Pamplona has to change this Sunday. “I’m convinced that we’re going to play well and earn the three points. If that doesn’t happen, we might as well stay at home. We were asked to finish in the top four at the beginning of the season. Now fourth place is very far. We all want to ensure ourselves of qualifying for Europa League and not being in Europe next year would be a failure,” he asserted.

The captain of the team played down the importance of the absence of Kun Agüero. “We know what he contributes to the team; he’s very important, although we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We have teammates and whoever plays in his sport will also do so well and will help the team out,” he assured.

Antonio knows that the team has a lot on the line in the nine remaining games but preferred not to focus on the number of points needed to qualify for a European competition. “People always do the math, but I prefer to focus on beating Osasuna; it’s better to go match-to-match, as we always make mistakes,” he highlighted.

Atlético de Madrid will return to competition after the week off last weekend. Antonio believes thatsometimes it’s good to get some rest to distance yourself from everything for a while and recharge your batteries to get ready for the end of the season.”

To finish, Antonio López wanted to send a message of support to the Rayo Vallecano players, who haven’t been getting paid their wages. “We’d like to show our solidarity with their entire squad. What they’re going through is deplorable. They have our full support. We share in their pain, as we’re all players. You never know if this might happen to you one day,” Antonio López concluded.
