Griezmann scores his 200th goal as an Atlético player
Antoine Griezmann continues to break records at Atlético and he is now the first ever player to score 200 goals in competitive matches for Atlético de Madrid.
The praise for Antoine Griezmann often falls short. The Frenchman, who already became the greatest goalscorer in the club's history on January 10 2024, added another milestone this Tuesday, when the team played against Eintracht Frankfurt, against whom Griezmann scored his 200th goal in the red and white colours.
The player with the eighth most games for Atlético de Madrid (454, just two behind Carlos Aguilera), 'Grizi' came to Atlético de Madrid in the summer of 2014 and, soon after, he won the Supercopa de España, his first title as an Atlético player. In December, he got his first hat-trick at San Mamés in an incredible victory against Athletic (4-1), and from there his career took off, both at the club and for the French national team. In 2018, he was a key player during the Europa League final against Olympique de Marsella (3-0), scoring two goals in Lyon, the first two of the game. In the same season, he got his first goal in a competitive match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano during Atlético's win in LaLiga against Málaga in 2017.
Griezmann won the Under-19 European Championship with France in 2010, and went on to star in the French national team in 2018, with whom he was crowned world champion in Russia during Deschamps' tenure as coach. In that final where they beat Croatia (4-2), Griezmann scored a goal and was chosen as the MVP. He also won the Nations League with France in 2021. On September 30 2024, he announced his retirement from the French national team, where he scored 44 goals in 137 matches. At Atlético, however, we are still able to enjoy his football and his legend continues to grow.
