Aiming for a win at Espanyol
Atlético de Madrid will visit Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium this Saturday (29 March) at 16:15 CET in LaLiga EA Sports following the international break.
There are ten finals remaining as we fight to achieve our objectives in LaLiga. Atlético reach the final stretch with the objective of gaining as many points as possible and, in the Copa del Rey, to aim for a spot in the final as we will play in the semi-final second leg next Wednesday at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. However, before this, we will face Espanyol, a side who recorded one point in Madrid and who need to win in order to stay in the league.
Atlético de Madrid will be looking to bounce back following our two most recent defeats in LaLiga, away from home against Getafe (2-1) and against Barcelona at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano (2-4). The aim is to produce a result like that which was seen against Valencia (0-3) four matches ago to start this decisive phase of the season in the best way possible.
Espanyol come into this match following the controversy that occurred in Mallorca, where Manolo González’s side lost (2-1) and criticised the refereeing. In addition, on the previous matchday, they drew at home in the derby against Girona (1-1), two results that have left them sitting a point above the relegation zone. The spot is currently occupied by Leganés, who have 27 points.
The Blanquiazules have only lost three games at the RCDE stadium, against Real Sociedad (0-1), Villarreal (1-2) and Sevilla (0-2), with the latter being the most recently, on matchday eleven. In the following eight home games, they have always earned points. They have won against Real Madrid (1-0), Valladolid (2-1) and Celta (3-1), and have drawn against Girona (1-1), Athletic Club (1-1), Leganés (1-1), Valencia (1-1) and Osasuna (0-0). All of this makes them a dangerous team due to their position in the table and their need for points, although our team will also look to build on their position in the table and close the gap on the top-two.
