Zenit go down at home against Rostov
Spalletti’s men defended their first place in the Russian league but were surprised by the Rostov allowing Spartak and Lokomotiv to close in on them.
Zenit St. Petersburg will host Atletico Madrid after stumbling in their last league match. Spalletti’s side received Rostov as sole leaders thanks to a seven game unbeaten run in the Petrovski Stadium, but they were surprised in the first half and could not react. The Italian coach had chosen Hulk, Witsel, Arshavin, Shirokov, Kerzhakov...but they were not sufficient to defending the privileged position at the top of the table. The visitors took the lead on 18 minutes through Dyakov and got another after 40 thanks to Kalachev. Although they tried to get back in to it the opposition fought hard and made it impossible. A defeat that complicates the situation in the domestic championship when just two days games ago it looked like they had the title sown up.
