We advance to the Champions League Round of 16!
Our opponents in the next round will be either Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool Football Club.
This evening's victory against Brugge means that Atlético de Madrid will once again progress to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. In the draw, which will take place this Friday at 12:00 CEST in Nyon, we will find out who our next opponents will be, either Liverpool or Tottenham. Both English teams bypassed the knockout round play-offs after finishing the League Phase in third and fourth place, respectively.
Against Arne Slot's team, our most recent encounter took place in the first matchday of this season. During our visit to Anfield, the final result was a 3-2 win in the Reds' favour. Meanwhile, we have only faced Tottenham on a single occasion. That being on 15 May 1963 in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, where we lost against the Londoners. Conor Gallagher, who played for Atlético up until the most recent winter transfer window, currently plays in the team managed by Igor Tudor.
The draw will determine the final bracket of the competition and the match-ups for the participating clubs.
