Wanda Metropolitano holds minute’s silence in memory of Francisco Marín Núñez, Miguel Ángel Lamata Bravo and Xana Martínez Cullell
Our stadium held a minute’s silence before Sunday’s match against Eibar in memory of the Spanish Air Force commander, the former player of both clubs and the daughter of the former Spain head coach.
The Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday held a minute’s silence in memory of Spanish Air Force commander Francisco Marín Núñez, former Atlético de Madrid and Eibar player Miguel Ángel Lamata Bravo and the daughter of former Spain head coach Luis Enrique Martínez, Xana Martínez Cullell.
Francisco Marín Núñez, commander of the Spanish Air Force, passed away on Aug. 26 in an airplane accident. Marín was also a pilot instructor of the Patrulla Águila ("Eagle Patrol"), which overflew the Vicente Calderón on our former stadium’s last day and the Wanda Metropolitano on its inauguration and on the 175th anniversary of the Spanish flag.
Miguel Ángel Lamata Bravo was a Spanish footballer. He passed away on Aug. 29 at age 72. Lamata arrived at Atlético de Madrid in 1967 from Eibar and went on to play seven games for our club.
Xana Martínez Cullell was the daughter of the former Spain head coach Luis Enrique Martínez. She passed away on Aug. 29 at age nine.
