Atletico Madrid made the Calderon a fortress in another game, this time taking three points against Getafe in a dominant victory

What began as a cold night in the Ribera del Manzanares, soon warmed up and ad the Atleti fans in great spirits as Simeone's men turned it on on the pitch. Atletico came away with a clear message: to control the opposition in every square meter of the pitch.

Statement of intent that was issued by Tiago after 3 minutes with a header that he nearly Moya surprise with. Borja came close soon after from a cross against Courtois in what turned out to be the only real chance the visitors had all night.

Arda Turan was very active and the result of his work was a chance which Pedro León saved on the line. The Atletico siege continued. Simeone asked for intensity from the side and after 25 minutes another move by the Turkish international from a corner kick on the right which Koke helped on before Raúl García opened the scoring in the Calderon.

Again, Arda and Koke were involved in the second goal. The Turkish midfielder put the ball on the head of Koke which forced Lopo to turn it in to his own net, doubling the advantage. An header from David Vila in 44th minute almost surprise Moya but the sides went in to the break with 2-0 on the scoreboard.

The second half saw a flurry of goals. Atletico wanted to make sure of the three points and David Villa got down to work. In the 49th minute the Spaniard finished after a cross from Juanfran to make it 3-0.

But it did not end there. Raúl García beat Moya in the 52nd minute to make it four and the forward had a chance to get his hat-trick moments later but was denied.

Atletico wanted to party and Diego Costa wanted to show that he had fully recovered from the injury kept him out in recent days. The striker showed his class when scoring the fifth of the night with a spectacular overhead kick that will be remembered for years by those attending the game on the night of the 23rd of November at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Minutes later Adrian was on the score sheet after a cross from David Villa making it six for the home side before he double his personal tally to make it seven after great individual work from Óliver Torres.

A convincing victory and three important points as Atletico stay on the tails of Barca at the top of the league standings.
