The Oso y el Madroño statue is inaugurated in the Wanda Metropolitano
The Oso y el Madroño, a symbol of Madrid, represents the bond between our club and the city of Madrid.
The Wanda Metropolitano keeps on incorporating elements that pay homage to Atlético de Madrid’s history and values. Coinciding with the first ever Madrid derby in our new stadium, we inaugurated in the east side of the stadium a statue of the Oso y el Madroño (The bear and the strawberry tree).
The Oso y el Madroño, a symbol of Madrid, represents the bond between our club and the city of Madrid.
The statue is a bronze sculpture, four metres tall and weighs 2,500 kilos. The roots coming out of the tree pay tribute to the five stadiums Atlético de Madrid have played in. Campo del Retiro (1903-1913), Campo de O´Donnell (1913-1923), Estadio Metropolitano (1923-1966), Estadio del Manzanares - Estadio Vicente Calderón (1966-2017) y Wanda Metropolitano (2017- ).
Starting this Friday, 17 November, Atlético fans and Madridians can come pose with the statue.
