TWICE IN EIGHT YEARS

The Riyadh Air Metropolitano has been chosen to host the 2027 Champions League final

Next season, our stadium will host the final of the largest European club competition for the second time in less than a decade, following the previous final in 2019. By doing so, it establishes itself as one of the world’s most important sports facilities.

At the UEFA Executive Committee meeting held today in Tirana, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano has been chosen once again to host the deciding game of the Champions League in 2027, taking over from the Puskás Arena in Budapest. On the tenth anniversary of its opening in September 2017, our stadium will again be the centre of attention in international football. With this being the second final of the largest European competition in less than a decade, our facility cements itself among other iconic stadiums such as Wembley, the Stade de France, and the Allianz Arena.

After the incredible final in 2019, where Liverpool beat Tottenham, our stadium has once again surpassed the very rigorous quality requirements. This selection reflects Atlético de Madrid’s consolidation as a global institution capable of hosting the most demanding events. Over these ten years, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano has become an icon of modernity and technology, attracting not only international football matches but also concerts from global stars such as Bad Bunny, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Ed Sheeran, and The Weekend.

A stadium and an environment in constant evolution

Since its opening, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano has been an ongoing project that has continuously adapted and improved, maintaining its position at the forefront of technology and the fan experience. Located in the very north-east of Madrid, the stadium sits within the new Ciudad del Deporte development, an innovative project initiated by the club which will transform its surroundings into a more than 265,000 square metre area dedicated to leisure, entertainment, and sport.

The stadium has a capacity of 70,692 spectators who are offered a high level of comfort and visibility. In addition to being the first stadium in the world to use 100% LED lights, its recent improvements include the ‘Sky Ribbon’, a five metre tall, 400 metre long, 360º screen which transforms the visual experience, and some new LED panels which bring the changing room tunnel to life.

These renovations reinforce the club’s vision of providing an environment of excellence. The inclusion of spaces such as the ‘Tunnel Club’ and the modernisation of the VIP areas, as well as the cylindrical LED screens on its exterior, are evidence of our ambition to offer our fans an unparalleled experience. At Atlético de Madrid, we understand that the future of football lies in constant adaptation and excellence, principles that guide every improvement made at home.
