Our home-grown player, Saúl Ñíguez, was nominated after scoring a fantastic goal in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League against Bayern and, after several months of voting, the goal of the red and white player is in fifth place, behind that from Messi against ACE Rome (34%) - which has been chosen as the best of goal the year – and the goals from Ricardinho (15%) in the UEFA Futsal Championship, Shaqiri (11%) and Camille Abily (11%).
215,417 people have voted to choose the best goal. The goal by Saúl received a total of 11% of the votes, tied with Shaqiri and Camille Abily. A goal that will remain etched in the memory of all Atléticos because of the importance and the way that it was scored, starting at the half-way line and leaving behind rivals to get to the box and kick the ball far away from Neuer’s reach.
