The goal by Saúl against Bayern, among the top ten of the 2015/16 Champions
The UEFA Technical Observers also recognize the beauty of his goal against Astana.
Forever present in the retina of all Atléticos, both for its importance and its beautiful execution, the goal that Saúl Ñíguez scored against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the semi-finals of the last Champions League has been chosen by the UEFA Technical Observers as one of the top ten goals of the 2015/16 edition of the tournament.
On 11 minutes of that match, a powerful run of the Atlético midfielder led him to dribble Thiago Alcántara, Juan Bernat, Xabi Alonso and David Alaba on the race, to beat Manuel Neuer from inside the box with a subtle shot close to the right post of the goalkeeper. A target that allowed Atlético de Madrid to win the match by 1-0 and that would be key for our team to reach the final of the competition.

But this is not the only recognition the highest governing body of European football has bestowed on Saúl, whose goal against Astana at the Vicente Calderón has also been chosen as one of the top five goals in set-piece plays of the 2015/16 edition. Against the Kazakh team, our footballer opened the scoreboard on 23 minutes, thanks to a heel-kick pass from Carrasco after a corner thrown by Gabi.
The UEFA technical observers group – in charge of making this selection – is made, among others, by Sir Alex Ferguson, Mircea Lucescu, David Moyes, Jean-Paul Brigger, Mixu Paatelainen, Thomas Schaaf, Peter Rudbæk, Ioan Lupescu and Ginés Meléndez.
