It was not to be. More united than ever, the Vicente Calderon was hopeful of achieving one of the most epic comebacks in the red and white history. However, Real Madrid go though thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, who converted a penalty from the first attack of the game. Something that did not change the mentality of our warriors who gave the maximum in every minute. Raúl García, after a good combination with Koke, responded with a superb shot from outside the box that hit the post.

Again, from the spot, excessive punishment for Simeone’s men as Cristiano Ronaldo converted his second penalty of the night. Real Madrid took advantage of the lead and took control of the game in midfield without causing danger to Aranzubia. With a lot of heart, Atletico stretched in attack and Koke first and then Raul Garcia tried their luck with distant shots without troubling Casillas and the team went in at the break 0-2 down.

The second half resumed with our warriors in search of the goal. Adrian, who replaced Diego, started the second 45 minutes and the game was increasingly played around Casillas’ box, but the danger did not translate in to goals. The first shoot faced by Aranzubia from Ancelotti’s team came via Gareth Bale which the keeper saved comfortably. Soon after, the keeper was again in action stopping Cristiano Ronaldo in a one on one.

In its final stages, the game was played out with tranquility in midfield. Mario Suárez tried to catch out Casillas and not long after Jose Sosa with a volley forced a save from the Spanish keeper. There was no time for more, the final whistle went drawing to an end our participation in the Copa del Rey 2013/14. The champion was eliminated, though, with our brilliant fans, this team will give a lot of joy in the remainder of the season.
