PREVIEW | LIVERPOOL VS. ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

The 25/26 Champions League kicks off!

From 21:00 CEST this Wednesday, our team will face the reigning Premier League champions in the first matchday of Europe’s top competition.

In one of the footballing world’s most iconic stages, Anfield, we will kick off the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League this Wednesday against Liverpool at 21:00 CEST in the first matchday of the group stage. Set to be a truly exhilarating match in a stadium where we’ve made history in recent years, including qualifying for the 2009/10 Europa League final, which we went on to win, and the legendary comeback in the Round of 16 in the 2019/20 Champions League, in the last match before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite missing injured players, Almada, Giménez, Baena, Julián Alvarez, and Johnny, our team heads into the match on the back of a convincing 2-0 win over Villarreal last Saturday, with goals from Barrios and Nico. Meanwhile, the English side secured a 1-0 victory against Burnley on Sunday, thanks to a penalty in stoppage time from Salah. Arne Slot’s team remains unbeaten in their domestic league, top of the table with 12 points, three ahead of Arsenal.

Despite being the reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool have added several new players to their squad, including forwards Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitiké, German midfielder Florian Wirtz, defenders Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni, and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. A tough opponent, but previous matches have been closely fought, with three wins each and two draws.

The match will be officiated by referee Maurizio Mariani from Rome. This will be his first time refereeing either team in an official competition.
