Simeone: "We played a very good game"
The Atletico coach praised the performance of his men against a great team like Manuel Pellegrini’s Malaga.
Diego Pablo Simeone returned to the stadium where he started his career as manager of Atletico Madrid in a match the ended 0-0. "I'm happy with the match. Having played four days ago it was an important match, with a lot of pressure and a great psychological strain, now the team responded within 90 minutes and we got an important result. The team held nothing back, and had dominated the match situations. We missed the last pass to turn the game in to a goal in the 90 minutes," he said.
The game was played where we feel more comfortable, we just missed the last pass
In the first half, Atletico were superior to their rival but failed to get ahead on the scoreboard. "Games are won by scoring goals and today we didn’t convert our chances. We face a great opponent who had all week to prepare, they have great players, a great coach and playing at home where they normally tend to get good results. Despite all this we tok another step forward, we played very well and we dominate. We played between lines and won the second plays. We only missed the final pass. We had a very good game," said the coach.
At full time the lauge table looked promising with Atelti 14 points ahead of their rival. "For me Malaga are a good team. We played well and when you find a team that presses you, you win the second ball and is active for 90 minutes it gets complicated. Malaga has great players. They are in Champions League and id well in the cup. It is a great team but today Atletico Madrid has a great game. We could not win but the game was well played," he said Simeone.
