Simeone: “It’s one of the most important days in the history of the Club”
Diego Pablo Simeone, Atlético’s coach, on a statement made to Canal Plus after the game, spoke about what this League title means and what the team had to suffer since the beginning.
The coach wanted to offer this League to “Miguel Ángel Gil, who trusted us, and to Enrique Cerezo, to Luis Aragonés, who probably defended with us in the box during the second half, and, above all, to the people who trusted in this group; and wanted us to build something very big”.
Regarding the key to success, he says, “It’s the work, which we never bargained with. We always try not to be committed to anyone and I believe the team always understood this, made it their own and I honestly think that today will be one of the most important days in the Club’s history. Going away from Barcelona being champions… Only joy”.
He mentioned that in the changing rooms they were “Calm. It’s the best you can transmit to a group that was doing things right in the first half: calmness; because if we scored, it was going to be much harder for them. And so it happened, thank God, and after that there was a great collective effort. From Villa to Sosa, Raúl, Adrián, from all of the guys”.
