Simeone: “Benfica are a top side, tough to break down, and they attack in numbers”
The Argentinean and Conor Gallagher were on media duty ahead of our games against SL Benfica on Wednesday.
In his pre-match press conference, Diego Pablo Simeone was adamant that tomorrow’s game, on matchday 2 in the Champions League league phase, would be far from easy. “Benfica are a good team. They are tough to break down and attack in numbers. They have a lot of personality and experienced players.”
The Argentinean coach also discussed Sunday’s derby against Real Madrid. “I’m calm because I am very direct and honest; I like to say what I feel. I won’t change what I said the other day. Before the press conference, I gave three individual notes and I rejected violence in all of them; it was a rejection of the aggressors, placing importance on what I am telling you now. As a Club, we have a great opportunity to be strong and show the outside world what needs to be done; this is what I said after the game and after that, I gave an opinion. The fact that this opinion was distorted and morphed to suit the needs of others is not my problem. The statement put out by the Club was perfect.”
Conor Gallagher also spoke to the press ahead of the game against Benfica, about whom he said that “they are a great team. We know it’ll be a tough game. They have great players but we’re excited to play. We’re ready and we hope to take all three points.”
