ON THE SHIRT THAT PAYS HOMAGE TO THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VICENTE CALDERÓN

Saúl will wear the number 8 next season

Atlético’s player from the ranks will change his number for the 2016/2017 season. Saúl will wear the number 8, leaving 17 behind, a number with which he has played the two last seasons.

Saúl Ñíguez will wear the number 8 in the 2016/2017 season that is about to start. Atlético’s midfielder changes his number, after wearing 17 in his last two seasons with the club.

Atlético’s player from the ranks made his debut with the first team on 8th March, 2012, against Besiktas in the Europa League. At that time, Saúl was wearing the number 48. A season later, and again in the Europa League, the player from Elche would change the number 48 to 28. And, on his return to the club in the 2014/2015 season, Saúl would wear the number 17.

From now on, Saúl will wear the number 8. A historical number for the club with which, for example, Luis Aragonés scored the first goal at the Vicente Calderón, a stadium which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. As a matter of fact, the player from the ranks remembered Luis and also his former teammate Raúl García on twitter when he mentioned his new number: “It will be an honour to wear a number that represents so much to the Atléticos! #LuisAragonés #RaúlGarcía"
