Saúl equals Torres in number of games
The player from Elche has equalled Fernando Torres 404 games in the Atlético de Madrid shirt and is tied with the striker in tenth place in the table of players with the most appearances for our club.
After the minutes played in Lugo, Saúl Ñíguez can celebrate the fact that he has already worn our shirt 404 times. He has now reached Fernando Torres in number of appearances, a milestone both for him and for the Academy.
His debut came in the 2011/12 campaign in a UEFA Europa League clash against Besiktas. Ultimately, that European competition would prove to be the first of six titles the midfielder has lifted as an Atleti player. It was followed by a Copa del Rey, a Spanish Super Cup, another UEFA Europa League, a European Super Cup and a league title. Over the course of more than a decade, and with a few loan spells in between, the youth academy player has been making history in Red & White to tie his idol; Fernando Torres.
With this figure, he is currently the tenth player with the most appearances in the history of the club (tied with the striker from Fuenlabrada) and the third with the most appearances as an Atleti player of the current squad.
