WE VISIT THE CATHEDRAL TO CONTINUE UNBEATEN IN LALIGA (20:00)

San Mamés, a big challenge for our team

Big game at the new San Mamés between two teams standing at the top of the table, Athletic and Atlético. Simeone has Giménez back for this fixture.

Atlético de Madrid visits the new San Mamés, a stadium in which we have not been defeated since it was inaugurated in 2013. In addition, our team was the first to beat the local team at home, with a 1-2 win in the King’s Cup in the 2012-13 season, with goals from Raúl García and Diego Costa. That same season, in LaLiga, we beat them again by 1-2 (Koke and Diego Costa). In 2013-14, 1-4 landslide, with a hat-trick from Griezmann and one goal by Raúl García. In 2014-15, another 0-1 win (Fernando Torres), to tie last season (2-2, with goals from Koke and Griezmann).

Precisely, Griezmann has had the measure of Athletic, since he has scored 8 goals against them, three when he played with Real Sociedad and five with Atlético. He scored the hat-trick in 2014-15, one at the Calderón in 2015-16 (2-1) and a great goal last campaign at San Mamés to tie 2-2.

Diego Pablo Simeone, who was happy with how the team has begun the season, has travelled with 19 players to Bilbao. Giménez is back on the list while Vrsaljko, Augusto and Werner remained in Madrid.
