Jonathan David: seventh player in our history to score in his first three league matches
Our striker achieved a historic milestone in Sunday’s derby against Real Madrid, becoming the seventh player in our 123-year history to score in each of his first three league matches.
Jonathan David became the seventh player in Atlético de Madrid history to score three goals in his first three league appearances for the Club, as he found the back of the net against Real Sociedad, CA Osasuna and Real Madrid in Sunday’s derby. Our team secured a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from him and Grimaldo.
It has been 31 years since an Atlético player achieved this feat. Lyuboslav Penev was the last to do so, after joining our Club in 1995. He scored his first three goals against Real Sociedad, Athletic Club and Real Racing Club.
Before him, Francisco Aguilar scored his first goals as a Rojiblanco against CD Málaga, Real Sporting and Valencia CF in 1975.
Mendonça achieved the same feat in 1958, scoring against Real Oviedo, Valencia CF and Real Sociedad.
Our third player to do so was Luis Miranda in 1941, when he scored against Hércules, Barcelona and Celta de Vigo.
In second place, Antonio Fernández scored against Real Oviedo, Real Sociedad and CD Castellón in 1941.
The first player in our history to score in his first three appearances as a Rojiblanco was Pruden Sánchez in 1940. In fact, the Salamanca-born forward scored 12 goals in his first seven matches for our Club.
