Reyes: 'You can’t blame the defence for the team’s loss”
The winger assured that the team can turn around the current situation
José Antonio Reyes didn’t have any doubts in admitting that it’s a tough day for the ‘rojiblanco’ squad. He thus acknowledged at his press conference that “nobody like the current situation. We held the meeting we had to hold in the locker room. Although I’ll say that the things that we re said stay there; I’m not going to reveal anything that is spoken about inside our house.”
The ‘rojiblanco’ midfielder believes that the mistakes were made by the whole team and said that “you can’t blame the defence. We’re a team. We win and we lose together. You can’t only blame the defence.”
In analysing the keys to the defeat to the Greek side, Reyes explained that “it was tough for us from the beginning, as we conceded a goal in the opening minute. The team was able to react and we turned the match around, but perhaps we let up and that led to the loss. The solution starts with beating Levante. We have to regain our confidence after two consecutive losses. The team has had its scoring chances, but our opponents also had three chances and scored three goals. We hope that that changes in the next match.”
In spite of the team’s two losses in-a-row, Reyes believes that the ‘rojiblanco’ squad can react and assured that “we have a great squad and we have the ability to turn around the current situation. What we have to do now is win against Levante. We know that passing through to the next round in the Europa League is going to be complicated, but as long as we have a bit of hope, we’ll fight to achieve it.”
The player assured that there isn’t a bad atmosphere in the dressing room and wanted to make it clear that “it’s normal for players to get at each other on the pitch. There’s always a bit of tension, but that doesn’t mean that there are problems amongst us. We all play for Atlético to win in every match that we play.
“Both the supporters and we, ourselves, are upset. I’d ask them to be with us right now. The loss hurts. Last year we won the title and now we’re doing very poorly. We’re Atlético de Madrid and we can’t allow ourselves to slip up any further. I don’t want to talk right now about the marks I’d give the team, as there’s plenty of season left ahead. We’re not either good or bad, we’re in a middle area,” José Antonio Reyes concluded.
